What can we do inside in steamy hot August? Well that's not exactly as it turned out. Rain had finally arrived and the weather was pleasant for the August tune-it/fix-it event at the climate controlled garage of Carl Dreher and Charlotte Bristow. Members started funneling in about 9:30 AM, led by the Boyles, then Harris, then Murphy and others. As Carl noted, the order of the day seemed to be electrical fixes, rather than mechanical fixes. Jeff Smith did have an idling problem, which was remedied. A lot of hard work went into the efforts of Carl, Dick Hawkins, Chuck Harris, Bob Nogueira and Peter Lamborghini, a mechanic and Alfa Romeo aficionado acquaintance of Carl's, to rectify various ailments. The others in attendance mainly were in a supervisory capacity, or just conversationalists. Hey, that's part of creating an enjoyable atmosphere. Then there was Charlotte bringing forth a least two salads and perhaps six or more pizzas for lunch; to be gulped down with water, soft drinks and beer.. It didn't break up until about 4:00 PM. I think I counted about 14 or 15 present from time to time. A great event. *** And what made it an even greater event was Carl hauling out his 1933 SS three wheeler, which is nearing completion, AND STARTING IT UP!! What a sound, what glory in the throbbing Matchless engine. What a contrast to the sleek +4+ setting nearby.
