A Day at the Park
Another All British Car Day (ABCD) successfully completed. (Yes, I know it has spread to other European cars and Motorbikes as one can't identify what is considered British any more, but that doesn't allow an ABCD reference.) From researching the past MOG LOG archives, the Club has participated in these shows since 1981, when the E-Jag club would put on a spring event at Churchill Park in Dallas and the Morris Minor club would hold a similar event in the fall at the Pate museum. Since then the events have moved to various locations and a single annual event is settled, at present, at White Rock Lake Park in East Dallas. The day started with 12 Club members meeting at the Circle Grill for breakfast and a pre-event confab. From there, the Morgan group proceeded to make its usual grand entrance into the Park. The first cars you encounter when entering is the Italian contingent, then the various historic British makes are spread across the central portion of the display grounds. German cars line one boundary and the bikes are aligned along another boundary. If attendees and spectators were adventuresome and kept searching, they would discover a remote area in the very back, across a drainage ditch, where the Morgans were sent in celebration of the company's 100 year of continuous operation as a British firm. Joining them were the Mini group, celebrating their 50th year, although now a German firm. Actually, though remote, it was a lovely, quiet, pastoral location in the shade under large Cottonwood trees. And when the 12 Morgans were lined up, the display was sufficient to lure many of the curious to cross the field and find us. On display were the 4/4s of the Smiths, J. Boyles and Harris, the +4s of the Fleners, Siegal, Murphy, Flynn, Aid, Nogueira and Hawkins, the +8 of McGeough and the +4+ of B. Boyles. Joe Aid had trailered his Flat Rad from Tyler, as it still has engine troubles. As expected, Nogueira worked on it for some time, but to no avail. The Hawkins example was trailered to the event also, as it is still under restoration and has no metal covering its wooden chassis. This made for quite an interesting display for the curious. Other Club members visiting the Club tent, but without their cars, were Ken and Sam Lindsey from Oklahoma, Ali Sheik, Ted Glover, Jeff Podmers, Jan Diehl, Paul McCaleb and Carl Dreher. (Paul had entered his MG Midget and Carl entered his Ducatti bike.) The weather remained cool, dry and pleasant all day. The People's choice for Best of Show at ABCD was a Ferrari. For the Morgans, the voters picked the +4+ first, followed by Siegal's Flad Rad and Judi's newly painted 4/4.
