Carl’s Corner for Car Corrections

Carl Dreher/Charlotte Bristow again hosted a fixit session in September. Only this time, with the temperatures in the 80s, there was no need to air condition the garage.

First arrival was Chuck Harris, soon followed by Jeff and Yvonne Smith, with their respective 4/4s. Your scribe arrived next as it appeared Carl was just putting the finishing touches on getting Chuck’s windscreen wipers to work. Jeff has already commenced disassembling his rear brakes. What followed was a total rebuild of his rear brake assembly, which apparently hadn’t functioned for some time. It was a tortuous ordeal, but Jeff was ably assisted by Carl, Dick Hawkins and Bob Nogueira.

At the lunch break, Charlotte brought forth the pizza and salad, to be devoured along with beer and soft drinks of choice. The Smiths had provided some brownies for dessert. Then it was back to finishing up Jeff’s project.

As that was being concluded, Carl had Bill Boyles bring in his +4, because of Bill’s comment that his odometer worked but the speedometer didn’t. (?) What’s the diagnosis? Carl and Bob took it out, took it apart, and the diagnosis was that the speedometer worked. Don’t know what cured it. It was reinstalled and Bill drove the car around the block and the speedometer was working fine. (Footnote: before publication of this article, the condition has arisen again – odo is OK – Speedometer not.)

Besides Bill, others in supervisory attendance were wife Judi, Paul McCaleb and Bernard Siegal. If we don’t have more Morgans in need, we may have to discontinue these annual sessions. (Although we know that Bernard has two and Dick one Morgan that is not presently roadworthy.)
