Day 4

The final day of the journey to Watkins Glen. It started with the efficiency of organization we have come to expect. At 8:30 the Group of Five together made it two blocks from the hotel to the gas station. Then they regrouped across the street and began today's journey. That was enough of a challenge to separate Nogueira, Flener and Art from Murphy and Boyles.

The initial goal was to visit the 9/11 memorial to the Flight Crash site. The group of 3 (Bob, Blake and Art) took the direct route, while Murphy and Boyles wandered undirected and came in the back way, but arrived first. ??? So after spending some quality time at the crash memorial, the Group of 5 continued North. The anniversary of the crash event was to be the following day, so much preparation was being made, including erecting tents, preparing parking areas, etc.

After a short snack stop in Altoona, Art and Patsy elected to proceed on alone to the Glen, and as of this writing, have not been seen again. It is known that they have arrived. For the remaining Group of 4 it was a little more difficult. As there is both a Route 220 and Route alternate 220 that connect Milesburg to Lock Haven, the travlers proceeded in circles, visiting Port Matilda twice, in an attempt to find the back route. Finally they were successful and rewarded with an exceptional lunch at the Unionville Cafe in Fleming PA. Even the local fire department showed up to do some remedial work on the Cafe.

By then it had been agreed that the Boyles would lead the group to the Glen. But due to extensive road work congestion, Boyles got separated and the remaing Group of 3 (Nogueira, Fleners and Murphy) proceeded on their own. Finally Boyles awaited them at the side of the road between Williamsport, PA and the New York border and all were reunited for the arrival at 6:15 in the Glen.

Upon arrival Nogueira, Flener and even Boyles washed their Morgans in antipication of tommorrow's festivities, both in town and at the track.

The completion of a successful trip of some 1580 mies, with no rain and minimal mechanical difficulties.
