Dallas to Watkins Glen
Five Morgans in Search of Fun and Adventure Day Six - At The Glen September 12th 2009 |
|
Watkins Glen Two (Day 6) Well today's weather seems rather iffy. However, the adventurers elected to venture out in various ways. Nogueira , for example, started to work on minor repairs/ improvements to his Morgan. Traci and Roy went to have the trailer brakes repaired and to replace the questionable tire. In the AM, Bill and Art ventured out to the celebrated International Motor Racing Research Center (which had a great movie on the original history of Watkins Glen racing). Meanwhile, Patsy and Judi attacked the shops. In the PM, Patsy and Judi returned to the B&B to rest. Art and Bill went out to view the activities at the track. Boyles bought a souvenir T-shirt, while Art bought a 1952 MG TD!!! Imagine Patsy's surprise that evening. The evening was spent at the lavish banquet at the track hosted by the Western New York Morgan Owners Club. The Boyles were almost refused re-entry to the track as they failed to bring their race tickets for this evening event. (Upon returning home to Dallas, an E-mail awaited them that this would be a requirement.) They were riding with Patsy and Art, who persuaded the official to permit us entry. The Texas Morgan group commandeered two tables, which were filled out by Randy Owens, the artist who had created the official event poster, and by old friend from Minnesota, Tom Politski. The banquet was quite exceptional, with T-shirts and badges for sale, an open bar, an excellent buffet, and several interesting speakers and an auction. Anyway, we didn't get back to our home base until about 11:30 PM.
