Day 11 Auburn

September 26th 2009

Auburn  Day 3

This is the busy day at Mog Midwest II. He Morning brought all the Morgans to a beautiful Eckhart ark. Here, under the shade of towering trees a formal judged concours was held along with a “Peoples Choice competition. Some 45 sparkling colorful Morgans ere staged around the show grounds.

Then a catered buffet lunch was followed by an arranges photo session of all the participating autos. After that the cars adjourned to an adjacent parking lot, when an intricate gymkhana was staged for the competitors.

Now it was time to clean up and prepare for the evening banquet and festivities at the exclusive Auburn, Cord ,Duisenberg Museum. The gates opened at 5:30 and everyone was free to tour the exhibits on the three floors of the Museum. An awesome sight in itself. An open bar was available prior to the banquet along with a silent auction of various automotive islands. Several of the more unique Morgans and concours winners were on display in the banquet room including Bob Nogueira’s drophead coupe representing the Texas contingent. All registrants received a souvenir trophy to commemorate their participation.

The Texans had their own table and a good thing too, as several awards were captured by the group. Art and Van Dyke each received a copy of the Morgan Factory history book autographed by Charles Morgan. Other awards received were second place ( a five way tie) in the rally by Bill and Judi Boyles. Bill was also presented the Spirit of the Event” award for his efforts in getting the Texas cars to the event. Of course all should consider they have a share I that award.

Then the featured speaker, Richard Shepherd-Barron, who drove the Morgan to the LeMans victory in 1992 was introduced . His talk reviewed his Morgan history during the era, including many personal behind the scenes details not normally known to most. Highly entertaining.

Finally everyone adjourned and returned to the hospitality room at the Auburn Inn. Now the final legs of the return trip await ahead.
